Frequently Asked Questions

So if you’re anything like me, or even slightly curious, this blog has probably raised a good number of questions. If so, here are some of the top burning questions I think you may want to know. And if I didn’t cover them, submit a question. You just may see it featured below!

Who are you?

For a number of reasons, I choose to write anonymously. But, more importantly, I am every Black woman who: has ever had to shrink themselves in Corporate America to fit in, had to code switch between home and the workplace, has been told to tone it down, has been passed over for the less-qualified non-Black woman. I am all of those stories that sound made up but happen to us. Every. Single. Day. I write this for you as much as for me.

What is this even about?

My life as a driven, ambitious, intelligent, force to be reckoned with—yet invisible—Black woman in the workplace. I’m sharing the bad and the ugly of being in the skin I’m in, and trying to succeed in a place that was never designed for someone like me.

When do you post new content?

I really wanted to be one of those people that posts every day. Hell, that was the goal. But truly, I ain’t got the time or sometimes the energy for that. So for now, I am committing to posting every week on at least one of my platforms. You can find me here LinkedIn, Instagram, or Facebook.

Where do these stories come from?

Please make no mistake: this is my real life laid bare for the interwebs. The only thing fictional about these posts are the names, to protect the innocent and the guilty alike. And if you should ever read one of these posts and gasp because you think I’m talking about you, then that’s a straight coincidence.

How come you added Black to the title?

Because I want there to be no ambiguity that I’m speaking about my lived experience as a Black woman. There aren’t enough safe spaces for Black women. And, if you take offense to my use of the word Black rather than just calling this The Invisible Woman, this space ain’t for you.

  1. Sis,

The audacity of you to call yourself an invisible BLACK woman! Well, it speaks to my heart. Thank you for taking the time to address your sisters. Knowing that so many of us have experienced the same treatment, somehow, makes it less painful and easier to bear. I feel stronger knowing that even if I am in a hostile working environment with no one else who looks like me, my sisters are going through similar situations all over the world and they are STILL STANDING. They persevere. We will survive eh? One love Sis.

    1. 🥹🥹🥹 First, I’m so sorry I’m just seeing this. Second, you made me cry, but in the best way possible. Nothing but happy tears and thank you for seeing me. I am so humbled you see yourself reflected and I hope to continue to do us all justice.

      Always,
      TIBW
