An attitude of gratitude

Hey y’all. In case you missed it, Saturday, I wrote something. It took off, I came away with some thoughts. So far, I’ve shared 4 takeaways or things, which you can find here:
Thing 1: “…for all us to eat”
Thing 2: The reason is because
Thing 3: Let your “you” flag fly
Thing 4: The power of one

And now for thing 5: Have an attitude of gratitude

This one probably seems super obvious. Most of us can remember getting something from someone with one of our parents within earshot and if we stayed silent, they uttered the quintessential four words: “what do we say?” Without missing a beat, we’d say “thank you.” It’s been ingrained in us for as far back as we can remember.

That was a pretty big takeaway for me here. Although I am not exactly keeping up with all the comments and reposts, I’m doing my level best to take the time to show my gratitude for the love y’all are showing me on this platform. Really, on all the platforms where you come across these posts. It’s easy to take for granted, especially as you grow and things take off, how it all started. You get wrapped up in the day to day or start smelling yourself and suddenly you elevate yourself above the people that helped you grow.

All jokes aside, I pray to never get to a point in anything I do that I believe this was all my doing. That I never forget for a second that as much as I believe in a higher power, I had absolutely no say where or when I was born. That I never get so arrogant I don’t remember how I got here. So I’m thankful to all of you. Because honestly, I am not special. And I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way. I mean that me, myself, I’m ordinary. The gift I’ve been bestowed, on the other hand, the ability to write my pain into my purpose, that I know is extraordinary.

I’m thankful for the haters, too. It’s affirmation that I’m on the right path. Truth makes people uncomfortable, which makes truth telling not for the faint of heart at all. Yet I’m still thankful for the negative and the positive because that means what I’m sharing is having an impact.

So, thankfulness is today’s takeaway. It will fill your heart and always, always pay back in dividends. And it works hella well when things aren’t going quite the way you’d hoped. Take stock of everything and everyone you have to be grateful for and your problems will seem small by comparison.

So for each and every one of you who take the time to read, comment, like, and share these posts, I truly, deeply, and sincerely thank you.

Thing 6 coming at you tomorrow. G’nite!
